Today I received an excellent letter from Margaret Jones-Bricker on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society. It had some information in it that I found very valuable and wanted to share it with everyone. Thank you for the letter Margaret!
“Overall, incidence of childhood cancer has remained relatively stable since 1985 (varying from 144 to 159 per one million children). During the same period there had been a dramatic decline in childhood cancer death rates (dropping from approximately 40 to 20 per million children).
Since the early 1950s, death rates for childhood cancers have dropped by more than 50 per cent thanks to major advances in treatment; currently, approximately 80 per cent of Canadian children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia are alive five years after diagnosis.”
It just goes to show that what we are doing by fundraising is making an impact on the lives of these children and their families. Your part does make a difference to the lives of children impacted by cancer (and their families). Thanks to your donations more than 50 northern children and their families have been able to attend Camp Goodtimes (since 2003).
